The Fairfax Civil War Weekend was held on May 6th and 7th, 2006 at the historic Blenheim Plnatation on Old Lee Highway.
We got to see re-enactors protraying Civil War officers such as Col. John S. Mosby, Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and others. Other re-enactors protrayed Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, and Mathew Brady, the ground-breaking Civil War photographer.
We learned that the plantation only opens for this one weekend each year. For this one event, guests can tour the majestic house and grounds. The attic of the home is notable for the notes, drawings, and signatures on the walls from Union soldiers.
There won't be an event this year, as they are performing renovations.
In 2008, the Civil War Weekend is scheduled for May 3 & 4. Saturday is 10 am - 9 pm. Sunday is 10 am - 4 pm.
